How
to Select a DJ For Your Event
Here
are a few tips to help you select the right DJ for your party:
Book
Early: The most popular and experienced DJs get
snapped up fast, so call well in advance to avoid disappointment.
For a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, we recommend booking a year ahead;
for weddings, make your choice 9 - 12 months in advance; for
all other parties, secure the entertainment as soon as you
know the date.
Meet,
Talk and Watch: Booking
agents are paid to sell their talent, and videotapes can be
edited to make the flattest DJ seem fantastic. Make time to
see your DJ in action at another party, and talk to him/her
before you book. Make sure you feel comfortable that s/he
will manage your party as you envision it. If the booking
company won't let you talk directly with the DJ, look elsewhere.
Ask
Questions:
All DJs do not offer the same services, so make clear up front
what you expect - and more importantly, make sure you understand
what is covered in your contract BEFORE YOU SIGN. If the DJ
or booking company seems unwilling to honor your requests,
or plays for less time than you expect, move on.
Confirm
a Price:
Once
you've found a DJ you like, get a price in writing before
you sign a contract. DJs often ask for a deposit to hold a
date; a reasonable amount is 15-25% of the total price, but
this can be negotiable.
Follow
these simple hints for hassle-free hiring. Good luck!
